Community Choices wants to capture that local knowledge, ambition and aspiration and invest in community participation that encourages local people to become involved in delivering activities and social infrastructure that are important to them.
Community Choices is the name of our participatory budgeting programme. Through a public vote, participatory budgeting offers a democratic way for local people to have a direct say in how a defined public budget can be used to address their priorities.
The Community Choices initiative was launched in 2020. Initially a fund of over £3M was invested in local community projects. Projects are developed by local groups and voted for by residents. The fund is divided across Falkirk’s nine wards and based on child poverty rates across Falkirk.
There are various opportunities to apply for funding from Community Choices, ranging from small grants [up to £5,000] to the place-based capital programme for larger projects [over £5,000]. Community Choices – Tenant’s Tenants’ Choice is a programme for Falkirk Council tenants [£2,500].
