Celebrating Careers Week in Falkirk: Shape the future

December 1, 2025

Scottish Careers Week, held from 10–14 November 2025, is a nationwide initiative led by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) under the theme “Shape the Future.” The campaign aims to inspire individuals of all ages to explore career opportunities, understand emerging sectors, and connect with employers and educators. It is part of a broader effort to build a future-ready workforce and promote lifelong learning across Scotland. Activities during the week include career fairs, employer engagement sessions, and interactive workshops designed to help the people of Falkirk make informed career choices and develop essential skills for the evolving job market.

This year, numerous partners from the Falkirk CPP made a significant contribution to the delivery and engagement of impactful Careers Week activities. These partnerships included DYW, FVC, NHS, Falkirk council and many more. Some highlights of the week were:

  • Care Experienced Celebration Event
SDS Careers Team joined Falkirk Council’s Care Experienced Celebration, which adopted a vibrant Western theme. Activities included a bucking bronco, scavenger hunts, and line dancing, complemented by My World of Works Live’s Lego Robotics and VR work experience headsets. The event brought together up to 80 care-experienced young people and partners such as the Leaving Care Team, Falkirk Council Employment and Training Unit, and WhoCares? Scotland, fostering inclusion and aspiration.
  • Health & Social Care Marketplace at Forth Valley College
Held On the 12th  November, Falkirk Health & Social Care Partnership hosted an interactive event at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus. Around 80 pupils from seven secondary schools explored pathways into health and social care careers. The event featured stalls from Dementia Services, Emergency Responders, Home Care, Social Work, and regulatory bodies like the SSSC, alongside SDS and local employability teams. Pupils gained insights into real-world roles and training opportunities, reinforcing the importance of careers in this vital sector.
  • Engineering Construction Industry Training Board - Career Insight Event Held on the 11th November at Forth Valley College, Falkirk campus. The event offered students from across Forth Valley (S4-S6) a chance to meet Engineering Construction employers and Forth Valley College representatives. Participants explored career paths, 1-year scholarships, apprenticeships, and got the opportunity to try hands-on engineering activities such as virtual welding. This covered over 200 secondary pupils in two sessions: ideal for those interested in engineering construction careers or apprenticeships.
  • School-Based Engagement and Skills Development
SDS teams in all Falkirk schools delivered sessions on career planning, CV building, careers fairs, mock interviews, guest speakers and many more events. These activities were supported by various partners and employers, ensuring pupils had an awareness and understood routes into many career sectors.

The breadth of activities during Careers Week demonstrates Falkirk CPP’s commitment to supporting young people and adults in shaping their futures. By linking education with employment and promoting sectors critical to the local economy, these initiatives strengthen the region’s workforce pipeline. Career
Week contributes to strengthening local employment pathways, promoting social inclusion and equality, building community resilience as well as inspiring lifelong learning and future skills
